Christmas Preparations
Birthday Party for Jesus

This Sunday, December 17, during Children’s Church at both services, the children will surely have a good time as they enjoy a Birthday Party for Jesus! The children will receive cupcakes, play Pin the Tail on Mary’s donkey and Musical Chairs, and create ornaments to take home! Don’t miss the fun!

Greening of the Church
An All Saints' Church tradition, the annual Greening of the Church will take place this Sunday evening, beginning at 6:30 p.m. We'll need many hands to hang greens inside and outside, decorate the tree, polish the brass, and generally spruce the place up for the coming celebration. Once the work is complete, we will gather in the Atrium to sing Christmas carols, enjoy hot chocolate, coffee and dessert, concluding by 8:30 p.m. Please bring a dessert to share!

Thanksgivings and Memorials
During this season of preparation for the birth of our Savior, one way to give thanks for loved ones who are no longer with us is to write a few lines of remembrance to be included in a Thanksgivings and Memorials page of our Christmas bulletin. Many people also choose to make a special offering in their loved ones’ name toward the adornment of All Saints’ Church, which helps us purchase our Christmas tree, wreaths, poinsettias, greens, and extra candles. To make a dedication, either complete a form (found on the back table in the Atrium) and return it with your check to the church office, or go online to www.allsaintswoodbridge.org/christmasmemorials.  Deadline for submissions is Sunday, December 17 to ensure there’s time to include them in the bulletin.

Children's Christmas Choir
Children's Choir meets for the final rehearsal this Sunday,  immediately following the 11 a.m. service (approximately 12:45 to 2:00 pm). Rehearsals are held in the Choir Room and are open to all children ages 5-12 years. Lunch is provided. For information, please contact Denise Avery-Craft at dkaverycraft@verizon.net or at (571) 643-8936.

http://www.allsaintswoodbridge.org/uploads/LessonsAndCarols.jpgChristmas Eve: Lessons and Carols
Lessons and Carols is a worship service used throughout the history of the church that highlights the Scriptures and hymns that lead us to the Christ child. This year, because the Fourth Sunday of Advent is also Christmas Eve, we will have one worship service in the morning and three evening services (See times below). Our morning service at 10:30 a.m. that day will be Lessons and Carols. We’ll have numerous Scripture readings that will begin in the Old Testament, highlighting God’s promised Messiah. The hymns and songs of this portion of the service will be Advent-themed. And then as the service shifts to the New Testament lessons of Jesus’ birth, we’ll sing traditional Christmas Carols. Lessons and Carols will conclude with prayer, without a celebration of Eucharist.

Wrapping up Your 2017 Pledge Year
Your 2017 End-of-Year Pledge Statement will reflect only those contributions that actually reach us by year's end. It is important to ensure your pledge contributions arrive in time. This can be accomplished in three ways:
1. Drop off contributions to the church office by Dec 25,2017. (The office will be closed between Christmas and New Year's Day.)
2. Place final contributions in the Sunday, Dec 31, 2017 offering.
3. Mail your final contributions, which MUST be postmarked by Dec 30, 2017.

Kicking off Your 2018 Pledge Year
For those who have submitted pledges for 2018, boxes containing your weekly contribution envelopes are available on a table in the back of the Atrium.

Calling all Ushers for Christmas Services

Ushers, a book has been placed on the back table in the Atrium in order to ensure, despite everyone's holiday travel plans, that all positions are filled for Christmas, New Year's, and the January 7 services. Please look for the book and enter your availability. Thank you!

GROW

Protecting God's Children: Jan 6
This training is required for all those age 14 and older who volunteer with youth and children (CVBS, nursery, Sunday school, Children's Church, Youth Group, etc.), and will be offered on Saturday, January 6, from 9:30 a.m. until noon in the children's wing. Nursery and child care for children third grade and younger will be made available upon request by January 3. Register here.

Cornerstone Series Starting in January

In Paul’s letter to the Romans (1:1-2), he describes the “Gospel of God” as having been “promised through [God’s] prophets in the Holy Scriptures concerning His Son.”

Zechariah delivered prophecies to encourage the people of Israel when they were rebuilding the temple after the exile in Babylon. The prophecies Zechariah recorded in this book are full of images and promises regarding the coming of Jesus as Messiah, both Servant and King. In this exciting study, we will discover many connections between the Old and New Testaments -- the promises, the fulfillments, and the future fulfillments at Jesus’ second coming. We still need this encouragement to persevere today. This study is intended for those who have completed the Foundations for Ministry course and would like to study at a deeper level. There will be about 2-3 hours of homework in preparation for each week's class. The group will meet in the children's wing on Sunday evenings from 6:00-7:30 p.m. beginning January 21st. Register online at www.allsaintswoodbridge.org/cornerstone.

Twelve Women of the Bible
The Women’s Thursday Morning Bible Class will be starting Twelve Women of the Bible, a new 12-session study beginning January 11. Join Lysa TerKuerst, Elisa Morgan, Naomi Zacharias, and other prominent teachers as they examine the lives of Mary Magdalene, Rebekah, Hannah, and nine others whose trials were not unlike many we face today. Be challenged, encouraged, and empowered to face trials in your own life by following their examples and drawing nearer to God. Workbooks cost $8 and will be available at the first class. Childcare cn be made available upon request. We meet Thursdays from 9:30-11:30 a.m. in the main conference room. Contact Connie Odems at (703) 583-0391 with any questions. Registration is available on the All Saints’ website.

Stephen Ministry Training

Stephen Ministers are the “after people” who come alongside people to care, encourage, and provide emotional and spiritual support: after the divorce papers are served and the bottom falls out of someone’s
 life; after the

doctor says, “I’m sorry but there’s nothing more we can do”; after someone finds a pink slip with a final paycheck; after the funeral, when everyone has left and the emotions someone’s held at bay come crashing in; after the baby arrives, demanding more of a new mother than she ever thought possible.

If you have gifts for caring, encouragement and listening please contact Julie Tilton, our Stephen Ministry Leader, for more information and an application. Julie can be reached at 703 402-4576 or jtilton13@verizon.net. Training begins January 8,  and will meet from 6:30-9 p.m. every Monday for 20 sessions. Not sure you’re ready? Take the training anyway. You will learn invaluable skills in relationship building!

Holy Spirit Revival Meetings
The National Prayer Chapel and All Saints’ Church are partnering to host Holy Spirit revival meetings at 7:30 p.m. on Monday nights! Our next meeting will be December 18 in the main sanctuary. We need volunteers to join a prayer team to pray regularly for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit in the meetings. Please contact Alexandra at (703) 927-9805 or alexandra@nationalprayerchapel.com.

SERVE

Cookies! Please consider bringing a dozen Christmas cookies to church Sunday so we can further bless these families. Whether home-made or store-bought, all will be gratefully received. For more information, contact Lisa Fair.

Blessing Bags: Supplies Needed

http://www.allsaintswoodbridge.org/uploads/supplies.jpgAs winter draws near, the urgency to fill more bags for women in need increases. We currently have 20 bags stuffed and ready to go, but they are lacking tweezers, nail clippers, face wash and moisturizer, all of which can be purchased at the dollar store. Please consider purchasing some items (small and trial size) and leaving them in the box in the atrium on Sunday mornings. If you've taken a reminder slip, please bring your items in as soon as possible. Thank you for your generosity!

Women's Leadership Council Openings

The Women's Leadership Council has openings, starting January 1 for at least two more women who feel God calling them to help unite and guide the women of All Saints toward a deeper love of God and each other. Looking to "Plug in"? Extra Hands are Always Appreciated
Please consider giving an hour or so of your time weekly or monthly to All Saints' Church by serving in one of the many volunteer opportunities. There's a spot for you wherever you would feel most comfortable serving--in the kitchen, in the nursery, in the office, helping to set up the altar, helping during the service as a reader, usher, chalice bearer or working in the audio-visual booth. If you are being called to serve, please contact the office at 703-670-0093 or via email to office@allsaintswoodbridge.org. Training will be provided if needed on an individual basis.

To add your event to the calendar, e-newsletter and Sunday morning’s bulletin, email announcements@allsaintswoodbridge.org. Announcements and additions to the "Prayers of the People," must be submitted by Mondays, 12 noon. All Saints' Church
