Joy, Strength, Community Together, Unity in the Spirit

What does it all mean?

http://www.allsaintswoodbridge.org/uploads/YouBelongCard2.jpgSeptember 16: For the second year, All Saints’ Church is one of many across the country participating in a national effort to bring our neighbors to church, or back to church, in some cases. This year’s theme is “You Belong Here.”  Are there people in your day-to-day lives who are struggling without Jesus? People you’d love to see discover the joy that comes with living in the Truth of God’s Word? Would you say they Belong Here? If so, here are some basic steps you can take to help them take the first steps toward finding, and perhaps joining a church in this area.

1. Pray. Start now, by asking God to bring to mind anyone He would have you invite. Pray He would stir their hearts and that they be open to an invitation.
2. Invite. We will have invitation cards in the Atrium starting August 26 that you can personalize and deliver, inviting your friends and neighbors to All Saints’ on September 16th. Of course, they can come sooner, but that day will be just a tad more festive than others.
3. Offer to drive. Or, if they don’t need a ride, arrive early and be waiting in the Atrium so you can welcome them and show them around, introduce them to other church members. Wear your name tag that day (if you don’t have one, stop at the Newcomer kiosk and be sure and order one.
4. Point them to and offer to join them in the “Next Step.” We have a great learning and growing opportunity planned for both new and seasoned All Saints’ members: a church-wide small group study that will be getting underway September 30. Handouts will be available on September 9th and 16th with all the details, but here’s a sneak peek:

All Saints’ Church will be launching its church-wide small-group study of Randy Frazee’s book, Think, Act, and Believe like Jesus on Sept 30. This ten-week study will be covered in both sermons and in small groups, in youth group, children’s church, and in established and soon-to-be established adult groups.  Watch for details on how to get your copy and how to sign up for a small group (if you don’t already have one), as well as a schedule for the readings. An information page will be created on our website soon!

Farewell Picnic for Father Dan
Please join us as we say farewell to Father Dan and Kristin the way All Saints' Church says it best: with food and fellowship. We will be gathering after Father Dan's final service, August 26, for a potluck meal, after which we will share stories and good wishes. In the weeks to come, there will be an opportunity for anyone who would like to sign our farewell gift or to make a donation to Dan and Kristin (not to ASC) for their journey.

Youth Summer Events
Our youth group continues to meet every Thursday for Bible study and group activities. Watch for news about upcoming summer events for Consumed! and Elevate! on our website at allsaintswoodbridge.org/summer.

Seeking Beanie Babies
Thank you for your generous Beanie Baby donations to the ASC Needlework Ministry. If you still would like to donate, there is an on-going need for as many as can be provided. The Needlework ministry will be using Beanie Babies to create “Lovey” toys for first responders to give to children in chaotic or frightening situations. These Loveys will be given to the Dumfries Police Department for officers to keep in their cars; whenever they respond to domestic disturbance calls where children are present, these toys can provide a calming influence and a bridge through the fear.  If you have  Beanie Babies you can part with, please consider donating them to this ministry.  A collection box is available in the atrium.

CareNet Banquet
Please consider attending the CareNet Pregnancy Resource Center's annual fundraising banquet, October 26, at 6 p.m. in the Westfields Marriott, Chantilly. Evening highlights include client testimonies and a powerful address from keynote speaker David Bereit, Author and Former CEO of 40 Days for Life. For more information, visit www.voice4life.org/banquet.

Lemonade on the Lawn
http://www.allsaintswoodbridge.org/uploads/lemonade-spotlight.jpgJoin us each week between Sunday services (9:45-10:45) for a time of fellowship and refreshment. Each week, a different ministry, small group, or perhaps even a group of friends, will prepare the table, outside (whenever the weather permits) or in the Atrium. If you, your small group, or your circle of friends would like to host an LoL table, please email us at office@allsaintswoodbridge.org. Please wear your name tags this summer to help us put names and faces together as we become better acquainted. If you haven’t received a name tag, stop at the Newcomer kiosk in the atrium and sign up to have one made.

Prayer for the Persecuted Church
If you are distressed by the news around the world and want to do something to help, please consider this prayer opportunity.  We meet the second Tuesday of every month for prayer focused on a particular region of the world currently experiencing persecution. The next meeting is August 14 at 7:30 p.m. in the All Saints’ Church Prayer Center.

Connecting Women
The Women’s Council will be holding a monthly casual get together for the women of All Saints'. "Connecting Women" will meet every third Saturday of the month upstairs in Wegman's from 1-2 p.m. (the next meeting is August 18). This is a casual social event. Just grab a coffee and connect and get your weekly shopping done at the same time.

GROW

Protecting God's Children August 25
Protecting God’s Children at All Saints’ Church is a required workshop for all those age 14 and older who volunteer with youth and children (nursery, Sunday school, Children's Church, Youth Group, etc.). The next workshop will be offered Saturday, August 25, from 9:30 a.m.-noon in the ASC children’s wing.  Nursery and child care for children third grade and younger will be made available upon request by Thursday, August 23. Please register for the workshop at http://www.allsaintswoodbridge.org/pgc.

Confirmation, Reception, and Reaffirmation
On October 28, our Bishop will be at All Saints’ Church to Confirm, Receive and Reaffirm members of our congregation who would like to take this next step in their faith. This opportunity is available one Sunday each year, so please prayerfully consider whether this is the year for you.  The course, “Learning & Confirming What We Believe,” starts September 16, and runs through October 21 in the Bishop’s Conference room, every Sunday at 9:45 a.m.  These classes explain how the Anglican Church started and what we believe. Those participating in the service can choose to:
* Be Confirmed (must not have previously made an adult, public profession of faith in Christ through Confirmation or adult baptism) [Confirmation Course Required]
* Be Received into the Anglican Church (may have previously made an adult, public profession of faith in Christ in another denomination) [Confirmation Course Required]
* Reaffirm Faith (was previously baptized, confirmed or received into the Anglican Church and wants to reaffirm faith in Christ)
* Take the course ONLY (for general knowledge, not Confirmation, Reception or Reaffirmation preparation purposes)
To register or to find more information, visit www.allsaintswoodbridge.org.

Tuesday Morning Women's Bible Study

You’re invited to participate in an exciting new Bible Study, "Twelve More Women of the Bible" now through August 28. Join us as gifted authors share spiritual lessons learned from Old and New Testament women that are equally relevant in 2018. Like all women, they experienced successes, failures, disappointments, rejections, and many times of trial. Come, be inspired and encouraged, as you learn how they persevered and experienced God’s presence, joy, and strength in every situation.  We meet each Tuesday in the multipurpose room at All Saints' from 10 a.m.—noon. All women are welcome, and we’ve saved a place for you. Contact Chloellen@comcast.net for more information or to order a workbook. Contact Melissa, mbyers@iachurch.org, for childcare during Bible study.

SERVE

Streetlight Ministries
Streetlight Ministries exists to provide the area homeless population with vital services which include providing hot meals at the Pathway Vineyard Church, 1550 Prince William Parkway, Woodbridge.  All Saints' Church is one of many area churches in the serving rotation, and provides meals approximately 3-4 times each year. To volunteer for this ministry, sign up at the Streetlight table in the Atrium.  Those providing food or beverage items should plan to have these items delivered by 6:30 p.m.  Servers should arrive at the facility by 6:45 p.m. Thank you for all you do to help in our community.

Looking to "Plug in"? Extra Hands are Always Appreciated
Please consider giving an hour or so of your time weekly or monthly to All Saints' Church by serving in one of the many volunteer opportunities. There's a spot for you wherever you would feel most comfortable serving--in the kitchen, in the nursery, in the office, helping to set up the altar, helping during the service as a reader, usher, chalice bearer or working in the audio-visual booth. If you are being called to serve, please contact the office at 703-670-0093 or via email to office@allsaintswoodbridge.org. Training will be provided if needed on an individual basis.
