April Food Giveaway!

Due to the Road to Resurrection on Saturday, April 8, the April Food Giveaway is Saturday, April 15! This is another opportunity to give food away to our neighbors in need. We have been averaging more than 200 people collecting food at each food giveaway! There is a real need in our community, and God is orchestrating a way for us to work together to share his love by meeting that need.

Volunteers are needed Thursday (sorting food), Friday (at the perishable food drive and helping with set-up), and Saturday at the giveaway. Sign up to serve and experience the joy of giving firsthand! This month we have an extra need for fresh produce!

Sign up here

It is a blessing to provide non-perishables as well as fresh meat and fresh produce to every family who comes! During the winter/spring months, we will not receive fresh produce from First Fruits Farm.

We especially need donations of fresh fruits and vegetables to be collected Friday, April 14 between 4:30 and 6:30 p.m.

Non-perishable Food items most needed:

  • cartons of oats

  • pancake mix

  • maseca (instant corn meal)

Bread and fresh produce will be collected Friday, April 14 between 4:30 p.m. and 6:30 p.m.

Please pray! This ministry belongs to God and only through Him are we able to make a difference in the lives of others.

Kairos Cookies Resumes!

After a three-and-a-half-year hiatus due to COVID-19, Kairos has been invited to return to prison! Debbie Morrison, Suzy Speare, and Carol Updike are team members of Kairos #43 scheduled for April 13-16 at the Central Virginia Correctional Unit for Women outside of Richmond. Kairos is similar to Cursillo or Walk to Emmaus. It includes a three-and-a-half-day weekend program where a trained team of Christians go into the prison to carry God’s message of love and forgiveness to those incarcerated. Would you pray about partnering with us? You can participate in three different ways.

  1. Prayer – Our goal is to have our weekend covered 24/7 in prayer. You can use this link to sign up for a 30-minute prayer slot.

  2. Cookies – Each team member is responsible for 25 dozen homemade cookies. Would you bake cookies for us? There are very specific instructions that can be found here. Cookies can be brought to the church to the Kairos table in the atrium beginning March 26, April 2, and April 9. You can also leave cookies in the Admin Office on weekdays during normal business hours. The final day for delivering cookies is April 11. Read the specific cookie guidance here.

  3. Financial Support – help offset the cost of supplies needed for the weekend. It costs about $100 per prisoner to attend such a weekend. Checks must be made payable to “Kairos of Va” with “CVCU” on the memo line.

Questions? Would you like to learn how you can be a team member for a future Kairos team?

Contact Debbie Morrison , Suzy Speare, or Carol Updike.
