Usually, prayer is needed right in the moment for the person who requests it. But there are times when it serves as an inspiration to go someplace else.
That took place May 9, when the food giveaway provided the opportunity for God to take the prayer station idea at food banks on the road. Here's why:
A woman, who was a first-timer at the food pantry, was here visiting her sister before heading back to her home in Cleveland two days later.
She wanted prayer for safe travels before asking if I wanted prayer. And boy could this woman pray.
After finishing, she started walking out of the sanctuary before turning to me and saying, "You know, there are a lot of churches in Cleveland who do food banks, but they don't have prayer stations. Being here just gave me some insight."
When she got back to Cleveland, she planned to suggest to churches that they add prayer stations to their food banks.
I thought that was so cool how God used her prayer experience at the food pantry to plant seeds elsewhere. A definite Holy Spirit moment.
Overall, we had 12 come through for prayer. Needs ranged from physical healing to financial provision. We handed out two prayer shawls to one woman who was so grateful. One of the shawls was purple, which is her mother’s favorite color.
We also prayed for a woman who had to stay in her car in the parking lot due to a hip issue.
All in all, it was a great day.
