Meet Our Summer Intern- Ethan!
This summer, All Saints’ Church has had the joy of Ethan Wills as our intern! He has been helping in a variety of ways with the gifts and skills he brings- including the music ministry, office work, VBS A/V support, and more! We asked him a few questions to get to know him more, and know how we can pray for him, as he heads off to his first year of college in a few short weeks.
How long have you attended All Saints' Church?
I have been attending All Saints' Church since I was born. My parents have been attending since they got married. Myself and all of my siblings were baptized in this church.
What is your favorite memory from your time in the church?
I think my favorite memory of my time at All Saints' would have to be worship during Sunday School when we were back on Saratoga Lane. That was always so much fun and those old worship songs and Sunday School songs will stick with me forever.
How did you find an interest and learn how to play the organ?
I have always loved the organ. It is such a fascinating instrument with an amazing history. The first time I ever played organ was for a memorial service because I was asked if I could, and my response was "Well I would love to try." I have always been really musical but the organ is a whole different undertaking. I would not call myself an organ player because there is so much more to it than I understand and am capable of doing. However, its basics revolve around the same central idea that piano does and I have been playing piano since I was 5. Playing it more and more I've learned about it and understand it on a deeper level but I also know that I am just scratching the surface.
What's your favorite instrument to play?
My favorite instrument to play is probably the piano. While other instruments I play are incredibly fun or very challenging, the piano is like my home and my center. When I am working on music theory things I don't envision a saxophone or a guitar, I think of a piano because that's what comes natural to me.
What are you planning to study at CNU this fall?
At CNU, I am planning to study Applied Physics. I love science and in my Junior year of High School, I took my first physics class and absolutely loved it. I was the person all my friends got help from, and the one who had A's all year long. It inspired me to take AP Physics my senior year and helped me decide what I was interested in for college.
What's your biggest learning lesson or experience from your internship so far?
In the beginning of my internship, Fr. Scott+ had me make a list of goals and things I was hoping to get out of this internship. The first thing on my list was to have a deeper understanding of the structure of the Anglican church and how it compared to the structure of the Catholic, Presbyterian, Lutheran, and other churches. Fr. Scott+ and I had a fascinating conversation about that exact thing a few days ago and it was incredibly interesting. I now understand more about the Diocese and how Diocese work in the Anglican church, Archdiocese in the Catholic church, the structure of the Session in the Presbyterian church compared to the Vestry in the Anglican church, and just general practices and differences in liturgy. I have learned more about church structure, liturgy, and the significance of symbols, vestments, and practices than I ever thought I would and I am so grateful for the opportunity to have done that.
How can we pray for you when you go away to college?
I think the biggest thing is probably to pray for peace of spirit and mind as I am making this transition to independence and being self-sufficient. I don't think I am nervous or scared for what I am about to begin, but I do know that there will be times when I will miss being home. I would also like prayer for clarity when I am making decisions that will alter the path of my future. I am still quite undecided when it comes to where I see myself after higher education.
Stephen Ministry Training Begins in August
A new Stephen Ministry training course will begin on Sunday August 22, from 2-4:30 PM. We will start out on Zoom and decide together when to begin meeting in person.
Classes are every Sunday through February 27, 2022, except for Sunday’s that fall on or near major holidays.
You will be equipped with relationship skills that will serve you well as a Stephen Minister, in your marriage, with friendships, and in any relationship you have!

Sign Up to Serve at the Food Giveaway September 11
Ready to serve our community again? Saturday, September 11 is another opportunity to give food away to our neighbors in need. What a blessing to provide non-perishables as well as fresh chicken and fresh produce (including vegetables from our own church gardens!) to every family who comes. Whether you have served previously or are looking to get involved for the first time, there are plenty of opportunities to jump in and serve.

We are also accepting donations leading up to September 11. You can drop off your donations at the church office.
Food items most needed:
• Cans of fruit (esp. pineapple or fruit cocktail)
• Breakfast items (pancake mix and/or cartons of oats)
• Cornmeal (esp. instant, which is often called Maseca or masa instantanea)
• Canned vegetables
• Canned chicken
• Soups (esp. non-condensed)
• Treats (like cookies, cake mix, chips, etc.)
• Fresh fruits, vegetables, and bread will be collected Friday, September 10, between 4:30 p.m. and 7:00 p.m.
Please pray! This ministry belongs to God and only through Him are we able to make a difference in the lives of others.

All Saints’ Church is scheduled to provide meals to the Hilda Barg Homeless Prevention Center July 25-31.
If you are praying about providing a meal for Hilda Barg during the week of July 25-31, 2021, please note that the themes and meal ideas presented on Perfect Potluck are suggestions to ensure we provide a wide variety of meals during the week. If you prefer to come up with your own meal idea for that day's theme, please feel free to prepare that meal. Just annotate what you're bringing so we all know.

The Hilda Barg Homeless Prevention Center, operated by Northern Virginia Family Services, is a 30-bed family shelter open 24/7 year-round. Services include: Family Emergency Shelter, Case Management, Housing Location Services, and Emergency Food Assistance.

VBS Celebration Sunday and Picnic!
All are invited this coming Sunday, July 25, 11 a.m. to our Treasured VBS Celebration Sunday service! We have nursery care for our youngest, age 5 and under, as needed.
The children are invited to wear their VBS shirts. We will sing our VBS songs all throughout the service, and the VBS decor will still be up for the kids!
Following the service, everyone is invited to stay for the VBS Celebration Picnic at about 12:30 p.m. Make sure to bring your own lawn chairs! We will have hot dogs, chips, watermelon, cake, and ice pops. We will also enjoy a few VBS games, music, and a Slip ‘n Slide (prepare the kids to be wet!). We will have small baby pools for our wobblers and toddlers.

VBS Volunteer Commissioning
Calling all VBS Treasure Hunters! Before we have amazing encounters with Jesus and our community throughout next week’s Vacation Bible School, let's wear our VBS t-shirts this coming Sunday, July 18 (either service). We will be commissioned and sent out on mission! Fr. Scott will invite us to stand for a prayer of commissioning during the Sunday services as we prepare our hearts to show the children in our community how treasured they are!

Treasured VBS Set-Up Saturday, July 17!
All hands on deck! On Saturday, July 17, 9:30 a.m.-11:30 a.m. come be part of the mission to transform our church into Treasured Ground! All the decor will be complete- we just need hands to hang, position, and transform! Tammy Bailey and Rachel Mahon will guide us and assign folks to a room to decorate. Childcare provided with RSVP to Tara by 7/13.

Last VBS Training Opportunity Next Week!
Next Tuesday is the last Vacation Bible School training session before VBS kicks off on July 19. Learn more about how you can use your gifts to help support VBS this year! There are a variety of opportunities to serve. Hear about the program and from station leaders about specific volunteer needs.
